Stupidity Is Not A Disability (when it comes to parking)

19 February 2010 4 Comments

We’ve all seen them, those people who just can’t seem to get their car between the lines outlining the handicap parking space.    I for one have a rule, “Never park within 10 spaces from a handicap parking space.”  Because you just never know if someone is using stupidity as their disability.

And finally I thought, if we make handicap spots for disabled people, shouldn’t we make really obese people parking spots?

    I had a coworker once who lived within 1 block of our workplace, and he drove to work, drove home for lunch, drove back to work, then back home at the end of the day. And yes, he was obese, but I didn’t think he was so far along that a one-block walk would be hazardous to his health.

    In a lot of these photos where the car is parked half in the handicapped space, and half in the space marked off next to it, (the space with all the lines through it) the cars are parked that way to allow wheelchair access. Most cars dont have wheelchair accessibility on BOTH sides, so yea, sometimes they have to park in the middle so they don’t do damage to others. So in a way, those are the SMART disabled people.

    @servanda that’s exactly right.

    My mother was in a wheelchair and many times my dad has had to park like that in order to get her out of the car and not hit the other cars, so that’s not dumb at all.
